These shoes were not provided by Brooks, I purchased the shoes myself so that I could write my own opinion about the Glycerin experience.

Here we go.

How it Performed

The Glycerin is Brooks maximum cushioned shoe and right out of the box this shoe looks and feels great. When you slip it on your foot there is an Ortholite sockliner to make the shoe feel very comfortable.

My longest run to date in the Glycerin is 16k, plus a 5k race and Duathlon and have had zero issues with fit, comfort or slippage. I am a size 13 and they fit to size. The shoe made a nice first impression on my and I look forward to many more long runs in these shoes. Even at speed the shoe worked well, didn’t feel clumpy or heavy. It wouldn’t be my first choice for speedwork but it didn’t slow me down either.

As a heel striker there is excellent cushioning under the heel and I typically use my forefoot more on uphills with the same excellent cushioning. There is a nice transition with this shoe from hell to toe. With 120k on the shoes there is zero wear on the soles.

Some of the minor things I like are the plush tongue and the thick luxurious laces plus the structure of the collar around your heel.

Downside – I ran on a wet wooden boardwalk and my only grumble about the Glycerin was that I felt it did not offer enough grip, so I really had to slow down and make sure very step was carefully placed to avoid slipping but on normal wet roads they worked a treat.

The Glycerin 19 is out now and is available in a Neutral shoe and a Stability shoe. If you like or need a maximum cushioned shoe please take a serious look at the Glycerin as I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.

Conclusion

The Glycerin feels like a very simple shoe which I think is the biggest compliment I can pay it. The shoe made a nice first impression on my first run and I look forward to many more long runs in these shoes and they felt just as comfortable after 16k as they did on my first km. This is a shoe I will add to my rotation from now on. It feels like a luxury shoe and one that I would most definitely purchase again.
